Host a padel tournament in Marrakech

What makes a tournament possible is not the court, it is its availability. In a club, every match is negotiated against a time slot, an hourly rate and the players waiting behind you.

Here the court belongs to the estate, and therefore to your group, from morning to night and for the whole stay.

That freedom changes the format. A group stage can run over three days instead of one afternoon, a semi-final can be replayed the next day if a storm passes through, and a player arriving late can catch up at first light.

Nobody watches the clock, because nobody else is waiting for the court.

The estate sleeps sixteen, which gives eight pairs: the size of a readable draw where everyone plays several times instead of going out in the first round.

The 300 m2 main riad and its four independent 60 m2 suites spread the group out so nobody is in anyone's way between matches.

The estate has a single court, and that is a starting point rather than a detail.

The formats that work best are the ones that put everyone on the same court: an americano where pairs change every set, a single group stage, or a draw spread across several evenings.

The concierge handles the rest, shopping, daily housekeeping and laundry, while the group plays.

The court is floodlit, which doubles the playing day. In summer the serious matches happen early, while the air is still cool, and start again after sunset once the heat has dropped over the plain. The afternoon belongs to the pool.

In winter the logic reverses: you play in the middle of the day, and heating for the saltwater pool can be booked online at £80 per day to extend the afternoon in the water.

The villa sits under no flight path, so nothing covers the sound of the ball between rallies.

A tournament is played around the court as much as on it. Housing the group in one place removes the transfers, the delays and the half-missing pairs at the start of a round.

The eight bedrooms are split between the 300 m2 riad and four independent 60 m2 suites, each with a private terrace and a view of the Atlas.

The independent suites also make it possible to host several families without imposing one rhythm on everyone. Early risers head out without waking the house, and those still going over the points late at night disturb nobody.

The one hectare grounds, with 80 olive trees, a rose garden and covered terraces, absorb the group between rounds.

A group playing back-to-back matches does not eat like a group on holiday: it needs volume, flexible timing and something to get through between rounds. Breakfast is included every morning, which settles the first service before the sunrise matches.

Beyond that, the cooks prepare Moroccan menus on request at around £30 per person per meal, built on produce from the estate: olive oil, dates, honey, organic eggs, seasonal fruit and vegetables.

A private chef is available on quotation for the final night dinner. The concierge takes care of the shopping, so the group never has to drive down to Marrakech mid-competition.

Playing three days in a row wears the legs down faster than a single match.

The estate puts recovery within reach of the court: a private sauna to release the muscles after effort, hammam rituals on request, and a 21 by 4.5 metre saltwater pool, gentler than chlorine, made for slow end of day lengths.

The gym completes the set with a Pilates Reformer, a rowing machine, free weights and a punching bag, useful for the morning warm-up as well as the evening stretch.

Around it, the mini football pitch, the petanque court and the ping-pong table keep busy whoever is not playing the current round.

The last evening has its own logistics. The fire pit brings the players together under the stars to go over the points and hand out the prizes, and the 4K projector replays the best rallies filmed during the day.

High speed fibre keeps the connection up for anyone sending the results back to those who stayed home.

Leaving is as easy as arriving: parking is private, airport transfers are arranged on request, and Marrakech-Menara is about 25 minutes away.

For groups extending their stay, the Royal Golf and Al Maaden courses are about 10 minutes away, karting 15 minutes, La Mamounia and central Marrakech 20 and 25 minutes.
